Karen joined SBA in early 2011 as an individual wanting to support a sustainable localized business environment. Her SBA Marketing Committee work has included projects supporting SBA ‘s new website and improved membership benefits and visibility, and researching potential foundation grant support.
After a career managing university student services, Karen has been doing extensive volunteer work and new career exploration in non-profits focused on environmental and economic sustainability, community and workforce development, and equitable food systems. Karen holds a B.A. in Human Relations (Magna Cum Laude) from Golden Gate University, and completed all coursework and practica for an M.S. in Counseling at Cal State East Bay.
Karen is a long-time animal rescuer/volunteer, sharing her home with a motley and much-loved “family” of eight rabbits and two cockatiels. A lifelong textile arts and crafting “addict,” she’s newly parlaying her passion into an ETSY business selling unique fabric accessories and home décor items, jewelry she handcrafts from high-end beads, and handcrafted soap. (In)famous for her twisted humor, Karen is a Bay Area native, an urban explorer, a lover of music and the arts, an avid re-purposer, a knitting fool, and a wicked cook who loves to feed people.
